Keeping Your Flavored Cigars Fresh: What You Need to Know
Flavored cigars like our ROSARIO - MILK CREAM and ROSARIO - GREY GOOSE are crafted to deliver a rich, consistent experience from the first smoke to the last. But how you store them after they arrive makes a real difference. Here's a straightforward guide to keeping your cigars in top condition.
Room-Temperature Storage
Flavored cigars do well at normal room temperature — generally between 65°F and 75°F (18°C–24°C). You don't need any special equipment for short-term storage. A cool, stable environment away from heat vents, appliances, or drafty windows is all most smokers need to keep cigars fresh for several weeks.
Avoid storing cigars in a car glove compartment, on a windowsill, or near any heat source. Temperature swings are the enemy of a good cigar — they cause the tobacco to expand and contract, which can crack wrappers and dry out the blend.
Keep Them Away from Direct Sunlight
UV light degrades the oils and flavoring that make a flavored cigar distinctive. Even indirect sunlight through a window over several days can dull the flavor profile of your cigars. Store them in a drawer, cabinet, or any opaque container out of the light. A dark shelf in a closet works perfectly well.
Humidity: The Right Balance
Flavored cigars are typically sealed at the factory to preserve moisture levels optimized for their blend. As long as the pack remains sealed, the cigars maintain their intended humidity. Once opened, ambient humidity matters more.
- Too dry (below ~60% RH): Cigars can become brittle, crack, and lose flavor intensity. The draw may become harsh.
- Too humid (above ~72% RH): Cigars can become soft, hard to light evenly, or develop mold over time.
- Ideal range: Most flavored cigars stay at their best between 65%–70% relative humidity.
If you live in a very dry or very humid climate, a small two-way humidity pack placed inside a sealed zip-lock bag or airtight container with your cigars can help maintain a stable environment without any guesswork.
Resealing Opened Packs
Once you open a pack, your goal is to limit air exposure as much as possible. Here's what works:
- Reseal the original packaging if it has a zip-seal or fold-over flap — press out excess air before sealing.
- Transfer to a zip-lock bag if the original packaging doesn't reseal well. Squeeze out as much air as possible.
- An airtight container or small cedar box works well for longer-term storage of partially smoked packs.
The key is minimizing airflow. Each time the pack is opened, some moisture escapes, so try to remove only what you plan to smoke shortly after.
How Long Can You Keep an Opened Pack?
Once opened and properly resealed, most flavored cigars remain in good condition for 2–4 weeks when stored at stable room temperature. Beyond that, you may notice a gradual softening of the flavor or slight dryness in the wrapper. For the best experience, plan to enjoy your cigars within a few weeks of opening the pack.
Unopened, factory-sealed packs generally have a much longer shelf life — check the packaging for any best-by guidance from the manufacturer.
What to Do If Your Shipment Arrives Dry or Damaged
We take pride in packing every order carefully, but shipping conditions can occasionally affect your cigars before they reach you. If your order arrives and the cigars seem dry, cracked, or otherwise not in the condition you expected, please don't smoke them and reach out to us right away.
Here's what to do:
- Don't discard the packaging. Photos of the box, seal, and cigars help us assess what happened in transit.
- Contact our support team as soon as possible — ideally within 48 hours of delivery — with your order number and a brief description of the issue.
- Include photos showing the condition of the cigars and packaging when you received them.
We'll work with you to make it right. Customer satisfaction is at the core of what we do at Ortiz Cigars, and no one should be stuck with a damaged shipment.
